For Mr. Anthony Ray Hinton

I spoke to a man today

Mr. Anthony Ray Hinton

You gave me 30 minutes of

Your life

Which I consider to be a blessing

You talked to me about choice

And lasting ripples of saying

I am sorry

Our talk, for real, it has changed my life

Actually, it was you who changed it

And your remarkable faith

How do you find it after 30 years?

In a 5x7 cage?

It tells me that you were always free

And your spirit couldn't be contained

No death row, no KKK

Racist attorneys or DAs

Could ever contain your freedom

I wonder if I had ever been that free

The truth is, probably, I haven't

But as I said, you changed my life

And I will learn from your light and faith

And will always remember

That The Sun Does Shine
